On April 15, 2026, Albert went home to join his parents John and Idell Cato. Born on December 2, 1960, in Stockton, California, Albert leaves a loving family: his beloved daughter, Lavinia; siblings: Jo Ann, Jeanette, Beverly, Barbara, John Jr. (deceased), Idell, Doris, Juliet, and Jerome. Forever in their hearts a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, Phi Beta Sigma Brothers, and friends as well as co- workers are also left to cherish his memory. 

Albert’s character was shaped by the ethics of family dedication, hard work, education, community involvement, humor, and belief in the Lord. There were numerous examples of his devotion to his beloved daughter Lavinia. He strived to make sure that she was taken care of and would receive an excellent education to obtain successful goals. He was known to be available for family members and others. It did not matter if you were going through a rough patch in life, prolonged illness, or needed advice, Albert was there. Numerous testimonies accounted for his encouragement, but Albert was a stickler if he believed that changes were needed. Believing that one should be steadfast in trusting the Lord, he would quote biblical scriptures applicable to our society, understanding forgiveness. 

Albert’s sense of humor was well-known along with love and commitment: brotherhood, scholarship, and service that he shared with fraternity brothers, Phi Beta Sigma. In fact, Albert along with his two other brothers’ humor would leave you crying once they got started. But Albert by himself could get “you going”. There are many memories of Albert enjoying life with his family. 

Though education was a priority, he believed that book learning was nothing if you did not have or use common sense”. Achieving a BA in business from San Jose State, Albert used his degree in his work as well as his commitment to the neighborhood he grew up in, Boggs Tract, and was well respected. His work ethic during his lifetime ranged from working as a talent acquisition manager in Palo Alto to providing food donations. Albert believed that you should do and give to others!

Albert was once asked a question about knowing and being a man. His response: “No one will know a person through life until one knows the last minutes of one’s life. But I can tell you: I am not a coward. … Not one of us has backed down from any situation. And I leave you with this - which also were our father’s words: Don’t be afraid of dying, be afraid of not living.”

Albert now joins Daddy, Mama, Junior, Deji, and the rest of our family who awaits you.
